Easter!

Last sunday it was Easter and last day of spring break! In the morning Nico and I got Easter-candy and t-shirts for camping. My t-shirt had a drawing of a burning marshmallow on it which perfectly describes what happens when I make s'mores.
At lunch we had fish, deviled eggs and jello salad. Deviled Eggs is what you see on the picture below. And jello salad is jello(en slags frugt-gele) cut in pieces and mixed in whipped cream. It is hard to explain but tasted really good.
It was a nice and different Easter.

Devils Tower

We drove back to Colorado on Tuesday, but on the way we did some sightseeing. In Wyoming we went to see Devils Tower. It looks like a tower that just shut up from the ground out of nowhere. Even the scientists dont have an answer to how it was created. A myth says that the earth rose under three native american girls that were chased by a bear. Apparently the grooves on the tower is from the bears claws.

Rapid City

Sunday we went in to Rapid City where there on the Main Street is a statue of each of the american presidents. We took funny pictures with some of the statues. We even found out that an iPhone fits perfectly in James Madison's hand...
Unfortunately they didn't have a statue of Barack Obama yet.

President Thomas Jefferson

Millard Fillmore whispering something to Sara. Haha

Seems like Brian was making friends with William Taft.

Nico and Calvin Coolige

After lunch we went back to the hotel which had a water park right next to it, so the rest of the day we were in the water. Me and Nico tried the slides, a ton of times! It was a fun and relaxing day.

Me and Nico right after a ride down the big water slide. We had a blast!

Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse and Cave adventures

Sunday was our big sightseeing day. First we went to see Mount Rushmore. It was cool to see it in real life, now that I have seen it on pictures so many times.
Family picture in front of Mt. Rushmore
Then we went to see Crazy Horse. It's a big sculpture of the Indian man named Crazy Horse riding on his horse. Or that is what it is eventually going to be... Right now, only the indians face and arm is made, and to us it doesn't seem like there have been any progress for many years. It was honestly a little disappointing...

Then we drove to Jewel Cave it is a huge underground cave that is more than ??km long. It was really cool to be down there and there was a lot of beautiful and cool crystals and rocks.

It looks like a big piece of bacon!

After that we wanted to go souvenir shopping in the small towns but that was basically impossible because everything was closed for the season. But it was actually nice to be there "out of season" because there was very few tourists at most of the attractions so we didn't have to fight to get a picture as I imagine it can be in the summer. We almost had it all to ourselves but we also had to suffer the freezing temperatures.

The beautiful Badlands

Saturday morning when we woke up, everything outside was covered with a good layer of snow. Outside it was -10 degrees Celsius! Well we didn't let the cold weather stop us from going to see The Badlands. And it was definitely worth it. It was probably one of the most beautiful places I've been. It almost looked like small snow covered mountains. After taking tons of pictures and almost freezing off our toes and fingers, we went to the tourist attaction called Wall Drug. It was an old drug store on the Oregon Trail. Now it was mostly an expensive tourist trap...
After eating lunch at Wall Drug we went into another area of the badlands where there were buffaloes. There was a lot of buffaloes! And there was even one standing right on the side of the road.it was really cool. At the end of the day we were all very exhausted.

Beginning of our spring-road trip

Right now I am on the way home from an awesome 5 day road trip with my host family. Last Thursday was the last day of school before spring break, so on Friday morning we took off on our road trip to South Dakota. First we drove through the corner of Wyoming and then we came to Nebraska. In the beginning it was very flat and there wasn't a lot to see except tractors and quiet towns. But then we came to Scottsbluff. It was a bluff right on the middle of nowhere. The old Oregon trail that the pioneers traveled on to get to the west went right past the bluff, so there was old wagons at the visitor center.
After seeing it we drove the rest of the way to Rapid City South Dakota.

Hockey!

Yesterday I went to see a hockey game with Nico and Brian. Colorado Avalanche was playing Minnesota Wild in the Pepsi Center in Denver. It was the first big sports event that I've been to here in the US. In the beginning of the game, i got pretty surprised because there was a couple of time where the players threw off their gloves and helmets and then started fighting. It was kinda like watching a hockey game and a boxing match at the same time...
It wasn't only the game that was entertaining, also the fans were quite entertaining. Whenever Colorado Avalanche scored, almost the whole stadium went crazy! People stood up, yelling, screaming and dancing... It was pretty wild!
It was really fun to watch!

Surfing on the first day on a hawaii.

In Denver airport, ready to leave. I was so excited!
Yesterday afternoon I arrived in Honolulu airport in Hawaii. It was at least 25 degrees Celsius, so I changed into shorts right away. That evening we got our hotel rooms assigned and ate a nice dinner. I am sharing a room with three sweet girls from Thailand, Italy and Germany.
I also got "reunioned" with a lot of Danish exchange students that I have meet before in Denmark. It was really good to see them again.

Me and the danish girl Mia that I met on the plane, right when we arrived in Honolulu airport.
The next morning we went down to get our breakfast which we could bring with us to the beach just across the street. We sat on our towels, looked out on the water and fed the many birds that were all around us. It was so cool! After putting on a ton of sunscreen we all went down to the beach again. There is 116 students but we are sometimes divided up into 4 groups. We were usually in the groups when we did activities but on other times we could hang out with whoever we wanted.
So we were just hanging out on the beach, swimming and eating ice cream until it was my groups turn to go surfing.

Me, Emma and Caroline
First we had a short surfing lesson with our surfboards laying on the sand. Then we went in the water and laying on the surfboards, we paddled with our arms all the way out to the waves. It was seriously good exercise for your arms! Out by the waves we got send of on the wave by a surfer instructor and then we had to slowly stand up on the surfboard. Then after the surf you had to paddle all the way out again. The first couple of tries were difficult and I fell off the board before I even got to stand up. But then after some tries, I got better and better. Of course the photographer left right when I started to get it... So in most of the pictures she got of me, I'm falling.
Even though the surfing was really hard for the arms, it was one of the most fun things I've ever tried! It was so much fun when I finally got to stand up on the board and to be honest I felt pretty cool. I was so eager to surf as much as possible in the time we had, but I that had some consequences... The front of my legs and knees where totally red and almost covered with blisters when I came in from the surfing. It was stinging pretty bad, but it was worth the surfing.
This was one of my first tries.

And here I go... falling off the surfboard.

After lunch my group went out on a catamaran boat. We saw a turtle a little bit away while we were jumping of the boat and into the water. There was also a big shoal of black fish close to us. The guy on the boat threw some food for the fish right next to a group of girls, so the fish came VERY near. We all freaked out and got to the boat as fast as possible. It was really funny though!

On the catamaran.
After sailing on the catamaran, we all walked back to the hotel to get ready for dinner. We ate dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe, Honolulu. The roof was covered with guitars and there was loud music. I had a fun time. After that we had time to go shopping.

It was such a great and eventful day!

This was the view from my hotel room, and further to the right was the beach.
